We Build Active Jewish Communities

Public Policy

Our public policy focus areas include guaranteeing support for Israel, combating antisemitism, and advancing the safety and security of Jewish institutions.

Take action

Protecting Jewish Communities

Safety and Security

Protecting and expanding the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.

Promoting and accessing other security enhancements that safeguard high-risk nonprofits and communities; and advancing community safety, including by supporting partnerships with law enforcement to combat hate crimes and other hate-fueled threats, and with reasonable gun safety measures.

We will enhance our efforts to engage other federal agencies and departments that provide funding sources for safety and security initiatives. This includes exploring opportunities for collaboration with other Federal agencies.

Combating Antisemitism

Combating antisemitism demands urgent government action and a coordinated approach at all levels—federal, state, and local—through legislative efforts and executive actions that address this growing threat.

Government leadership is essential in properly defining antisemitism consistent with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition and ensuring these policies extend beyond public institutions, influencing key sectors like K-12 education, universities, labor unions, and the private sector, where antisemitism can also manifest.

Building strong partnerships with nongovernmental entities, including university boards, faith groups, and national NGOs, is critical to expanding the reach and effectiveness of these efforts. A unified, government-driven response is necessary to create lasting change and protect communities.

Supporting Israel

Support for Israel

In partnership with Jewish Federations’ Israel Office, we will advocate for a robust US-Israel relationship, ensuring that Israel receives the vital resources and military assistance needed to be victorious in the face of any foreign aggression.

As Israel is a vibrant democracy with a strong, independent judiciary, Jewish Federations will oppose efforts to sanction Israelis and Israeli organizations.

We will continue to oppose de-legitimization efforts, such as the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, while promoting policies that foster normalization of relations between Israel and other countries.

Furthermore, we will actively pursue expanded Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and agreements that benefit both Israel and the United States.

Our efforts will also focus on supporting programs and initiatives aimed at fostering a peaceful future between Israel and the Palestinian people and a two-state solution where Israel lives in peace with a demilitarized Palestinian state.

Support for the Abraham Accords

Jewish Federations strongly support the Abraham Accords and are committed to fostering the expansion of these historic agreements to promote peace, cooperation, and prosperity throughout the Middle East.

By encouraging new partnerships between Israel and additional Arab and Muslim-majority countries, Jewish Federations aim to contribute to greater regional stability, economic development, and diplomatic progress.

We believe that expanding the Abraham Accords will create opportunities for mutual benefit, foster peaceful coexistence, and lay the foundation for a more secure and prosperous future for all nations in the region.

Health & Social Services

Preserving Access to Vital Support Programs

Safeguarding long-term care and safety net support programs, including but not limited to protecting Medicaid and Medicare; advancing programs and services to enable people with disabilities to achieve maximum independence, community, and inclusion; strengthening access to mental health and health care, including by supporting innovations that increase accessibility and fiscal responsibility; supporting reproductive health and the ability to follow personal religious beliefs; and supporting programs for older adults.

Holocaust Survivors

Ensuring that Holocaust survivors, diverse older adult populations with a history of trauma, and their family caregivers receive support to live with greater dignity and an enhanced quality of life by promoting person-centered, trauma-informed care.

Economic Vulnerability

Supporting programs that alleviate poverty and promote economic mobility for low- income Jews and other communities, such as expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit; and addressing food insecurity with a specific focus on accessible kosher food, including through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program.

Against Antisemitism in Health Care

We are advocating for Congressional action to address the growing antisemitism within the health care sector, ensuring Jewish professionals and patients are protected from discrimination and bias.

Combating All Forms of Hate

Supporting legislation to combat all forms of hate, extremism, racism, and discrimination, including those targeting marginalized communities and the LGBTQ+ community. This includes laws around hate crimes, prevent abuse and harassment, and ensure fairness and equal treatment for everyone.

Refugees and Immigration

Supporting Jews and other marginalized populations fleeing persecution.

Supporting Civic Engagement

To foster a stable democratic environment in which all our communities can flourish.

Communal Infrastructure

Charitable Protections

Encouraging the efficient and responsible administration of national tax policy to support and encourage philanthropic activity.

Support for Education

Jewish Federations believe in the importance of ensuring that families have options for quality education, including public, private, and religious schools, so that children from all backgrounds can thrive academically and culturally. Jewish Federations support initiatives that promote equal opportunities for all students and help foster an inclusive learning environment that reflects the diversity of our communities.

Safeguarding Our Environment

Advancing government policies that encourage and empower nonprofits to help safeguard the natural environment.

Stability of Communal Institutions

Maintaining or expanding nonprofit infrastructure and relief funding; responding to natural disasters; ensuring access to resources for Jewish institutions including community centers, childcare providers, and schools to serve the community while supporting public education; and efforts to address workforce shortage challenges.
