The Jewish Federations of North America ("JFNA") consist of 146 Jewish Federations and dozens of Network communities which collectively raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually to support flourishing Jewish life and the needs of the Jewish people in their home communities and around the world. The Jewish Federation system, among the top 10 charities on the continent, leads the largest network of volunteer and professional leaders who build and sustain Jewish communities that are healthy, safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive, educated and engaged, involved in the broader community, and deeply connected to Israel and the global Jewish people.  

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Managing Director, LiveTogether will help lead the effort to bolster community capabilities to secure our communities and comprehensively elevate Jewish Federations’ community relations work across 146 Federations. This role will focus on designing and implementing a comprehensive effort to support every Federation in assessing and enhancing their community relations capabilities, based on a set of best practices and with the assistance of targeted funding. Through this role, we will significantly improve the quality and impact of community relations efforts across Federations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and manage the the LiveTogether grants initiative, aimed at enhancing the community relations capabilities of every Jewish Federation.
  • Develop an assessment tool that can be used by every Federation to establish a starting point towards their efforts to strengthen and growth their community relations capabilities and impact..
  • Partner with Federations to develop and implement community relations plans.
  • Work with Federations to help them develop and enhance strategic relationships with local officials, business and civic leaders, and representatives of other ethnic and religious groups.
  • Conduct periodic reviews to assess progress and adherence to standards.
  • Ensure the field is facilitating, tracking and quantifying specific engagements with strategic civic partners and organizations, religious and ethnic counterparts, local media, and public officials.
  • Track and report Federations action steps and engagements with the new initiative.
    • Create guidelines and measure the success of civic engagement initiatives through quality and quantity metrics, such as repeated engagements, legislative successes, and participation in national initiatives.
    • Create and manage regular Federation reports on progress within the new initiative.
  • Help create and ensure grant-funded initiatives include sustainable strategies beyond the initial two-year period.
  • Coordinate Federations’ community relations needs across the Community Relations team and other JFNA supports and resources.  
  • Develop and facilitate training and development opportunities that support Federations in their community relations work, including skill-based and issue-based briefings and workshops. 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have significant experience in working on issues related to community relations and combatting antisemitism.
  • Have demonstrated experience in building and activating coalitions and grassroots involvement in community relations or public affairs.
  • Be aware of the range of Jewish community organizations, especially those that are active in or concerned about community relations.
  • Possess exceptionally strong written and verbal skills.
  • Be comfortable and experienced in speaking on JFNA issues and the Jewish community.
  • Have skills in leading conversations with people who hold a diverse range of opinions on key issues in an open and respectful manner.
  • Able to work strategically and collaboratively.
  • Be a flexible team player

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

SALARY RANGE: $140,000 - $165,000
