Organization Overview:
The Jewish Federations of North America (“JFNA”) consist of 146 Jewish Federations and dozens of Network communities which collectively raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually to support flourishing Jewish life and the needs of the Jewish people in their home communities and around the world. The Jewish Federation system, among the top 10 charities on the continent, leads the largest network of volunteer and professional leaders who build and sustain Jewish communities that are healthy, safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive, educated and engaged, involved in the broader community, and deeply connected to Israel and the global Jewish people.
About the Government Relations Team:
Jewish Federations’ Government Relations team represents the interests and concerns of over 350 Jewish communities to members of Congress and the administration. We advocate for key legislation that helps further Federations’ work domestically and abroad and impacts the safety and security of Jewish institutions.
Position Summary:
Government Relations interns will play a key role in supporting various projects, including attending Congressional hearings, prospecting for grants, researching policy and implementation practices, assisting in conference and meeting planning, proofreading external documents, and organizing resource materials. This internship is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and motivated individual to gain experience in nonprofit advocacy work in a bipartisan manner, while contributing to the organization's mission-driven initiatives and fostering professional growth.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Review and edit external documents for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to organizational standards.
- Conduct research to identify potential grant opportunities, policy and practices that inform advocacy efforts, and to write reports highlighting our work to various audiences.
- Assist in the planning/implementation of briefings, webinars, meetings, and conferences.
- Categorize and maintain data in multiple spreadsheets in Google Drive.
- Write and edit memos, emails, briefing materials and tool kits.
- Assist in lobby efforts on the Hill by supporting lobbyists work in the following portfolios: Antisemitism & Israel, Health and Human Services, & Appropriations
Qualifications:
- Must be detail-oriented.
- Self-starter with a positive attitude.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communications skills.
- Consistently professional when working with diverse personalities and work styles.
- Must be proficient in MS Office Suite and Google Docs.
- Interest in public policy and government affairs work.
- Experience in graphic design software (Canva) is a plus.

The intern position is expected to work up to 25 hours per week. Eastern Time Zone is preferred. While the employee may work out of JFNA offices in Washington, DC or New York, NY, the position may be hybrid or fully remote within the United States depending on the applicant’s location.
