Shalom Austin is the hub of Jewish life in Central Texas. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization comprised of the Jewish Community Center (JCC), Jewish Federation, Jewish Family Service (JFS), and the Jewish Foundation. The majority of our programming operates on 40 beautiful acres on the Dell Jewish Community Campus in the live music capital of the world – “weird” Austin, Texas.

As a Foundation Director & Philanthropic Advisor on the development team, you will be responsible for growing the Shalom Austin Jewish Foundation and strengthening the organization’s role as a trusted leader for the Greater Austin Jewish community in donor-advised funds, planned giving solutions, and charitable assets. This position will consult with planned giving and major gift donors to help them imagine, design, and create a better world through use of their philanthropic resources. This is accomplished by integrating Shalom Austin’s convening functions, grantmaking, philanthropic and planning giving efforts into a holistic, donor-centric approach toward individual, organizational, and community-wide long-term impact. This position collaborates with staff, lay leaders, fund holders, and partner agencies to integrate planned giving into all development activities, with a focus on prospective legacy gifts and stewardship of committed planned giving donors. This position will maintain and enhance relationships and interact with members of the planned giving and grantmaking communities locally and nationally. 
 
This is a full-time, salaried position. 
 
What you will be doing: 
  • Direct planning and execution of SAJF planned giving priorities, strategies, recognition, operations, and marketing, in collaboration with Senior Development Director. 
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned gifts, Donor Advised Funds, and Agency, Restricted, and Unrestricted Endowments.
  • Steward Jewish agencies whose endowments are under the care of SAJF.
  • Create and execute donor strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward annual and planned gifts.
  • Work collaboratively with professional and volunteer philanthropic leadership and senior leadership
  • Oversee the Jewish Foundation Committee and collaborates with Shalom Austin Philanthropy Leadership 
  • Maintain and enhance relations with professional wealth management and estate planning community and cultivate these sources for business referrals.
  • Serve as staff lead for fundholder educational and appreciation events. 
  • Maintain donor records in database and ensure accurate and timely gift processing.
  • Ensure appropriate recognition for donors through collaboration with Development team. 
  • Advise Fundholders about community needs and opportunities; help them establish philanthropic goals, priorities, and metrics. 
  • Maintain records and policies and ensure compliance of planned gifts, bequests and fund agreements in accordance with Austin Community Foundation policies. 
  • Collaborate with Accounting department to ensure planned gifts are appropriately reviewed and processed, including annual distributions of Restricted Endowments. 
  • Oversee marketing and communications plan for SAJF 
  • Stay up to date on planned giving vehicles and trends; provide training and solicitation material 
  • Enhance communication, offer educational opportunities, and maintain positive relationships with current Shalom Austin donors and prospective fundholders so they continue to be a key source of additional endowments.
  • Supervise a part time administrative position 
 
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree or Advanced Certification in Nonprofit Management, Business, Finance, or other-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated success of securing six- and seven-figure and/or planned gifts.
  • Demonstrated success of planned giving, forecasting, and budgeting.  
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience in the field of major gift fundraising, grantmaking, planned giving and financial and tax planning. 
  • Thorough knowledge of Jewish culture and the organized Jewish community are required, along with the ability to present a strong and recognizable commitment to the enrichment of a sustained Jewish community.
  • Experience in a multi-faceted fundraising environment desired (annual, legacy and community foundation services). 
  • Exceptional donor-relations skills: proven ability in creating strategies to cultivate prospects and channel donor engagement. 
  • Experience with research, donor outreach and events management.
  • Demonstrated ability to accept and apply feedback, follow leadership and align with organizational decisions.
  • Self-motivated; able to multi-task with excellent attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and self-motivated.  
  • Works well collaboratively in a team environment.  
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (which may, depending on the position you are hired for, include an FBI fingerprint check).

  • Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs, carrying up to 20-pound objects and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office computers and equipment.
