The Birmingham Jewish Federation (BJF) is seeking a Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC).  This role will provide strategic and creative leadership to strengthen BJF in the realm of community relations as well as strengthening connections both inside and outside of the Jewish Community. 
 
2022 marked the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC). Though 60 years have passed, our mission today is still very much like what our founders perceived in 1962; building bridges of understanding within our Jewish community and to our broader community, combating antisemitism, educating in support of a strong and secure Israel, and advocating for public policy and social justice issues important to our Birmingham Jewish community.
 

Job Functions

I. Serve as the connecting point of the Jewish community for interfaith and civic organizations. 

 
II. Outreach and communication to Over the Mountain and Birmingham area schools:
  • A. Holidays - How they affect Jewish students and accommodations needed 
  • B. Respond to incidents and issues in the schools
  • C. Meet regularly with area Directors of Student Services and Superintendents 
  • D. Speak to Faculty, Diversity committees about the Jewish community, Judaism, antisemitism, etc. 
 
III. Antisemitism 
  • A. Respond to incidents and issues in community 
  • B. Release information and communications regarding incidents nationally and/or globally 
  • C. Plan programming to educate and inform whether it be Jewish community and broader community 
 
IV. Interfaith Work 
  • A. Work with our clergy to assure representation at community programming
 
V. Work in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Israel Engagement and Advocacy to produce programming
 
VI. Other duties as assigned in dealing with Public Affairs issues important to the Birmingham Jewish Community. 
 
This position reports directly to the CEO and is currently part time with full time potential. Benefits include health insurance stipend and 401K.
