REPORTS TO:     Managing Director, National Young Leadership Cabinet

 

Organizational Overview:

The Jewish Federations of North America ("JFNA") consist of 146 Jewish Federations and dozens of Network communities which collectively raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually to support flourishing Jewish life and the needs of the Jewish people in their home communities and around the world. The Jewish Federation system, among the top 10 charities on the continent, leads the largest network of volunteer and professional leaders who build and sustain Jewish communities that are healthy, safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive, educated and engaged, involved in the broader community, and deeply connected to Israel and the global Jewish people.  
 

Department Overview:

JFNA’s Lay Leadership Development strategy and department helps drive the vision of Flourishing Jewish Communities by developing those who can lead across the community through complex and challenging times. Our work complements and partners deeply across JFNA to ensure consistency with all leadership networks represented within JFNA and in the field.

 

The Director, Cabinet Alumni, engages and mobilizes Cabinet alumni for the benefit of building flourishing Jewish communities around the world. Cabinet and its alumni network are central to strengthening Jewish life globally by fostering connectivity and a sense of belonging. While Cabinet alumni generally remain connected, this position will galvanize their ongoing engagement to convene them around the pressing issues facing the Jewish Community, and to partner in cultivating the next generation of Jewish leaders. While some steps have already been taken to connect alumni, including an alumni led lay committee to support the work, this role includes the opportunity to steer the work of building and testing new strategies and approaches.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategy to strengthen community among 4,200+ Cabinet alumni on behalf of JFNA and in partnership with local Federations.
  • Maintain and grow the Cabinet alumni network through experiences, content, and strategies that deepen alumni leadership and engagement.      
  • Connect alumni with opportunities to lend their expertise, insight, and support to the issues confronting the global Jewish community.
  • Manage relationships with key Cabinet alumni to support the identification of great candidates for targeted positions (boards, committees, task forces) at JFNA, local Federations, and across the Jewish community.
  • Leverage high-profile leadership gatherings and JFNA marquee events as opportunities to convene Cabinet alumni (e.g. Cabinet Retreat, General Assembly, Lion of Judah Conference, etc.).
  • Oversee communications and strategic support to 146 local Federations to strengthen Cabinet alumni connections to the community.
  • Coordinate alumni engagement with current members to facilitate relationships across the generations of Cabinet.
  • Manage the transition as Cabinet members become alumni to maintain the strength of their connection and involvement with JFNA and their local Jewish community.
  • Partner with the Alumni Committee Chairs to set, meet, and track key performance indicators.
  • Partner across Lay Leadership Development team on high-level leadership learning, philanthropy, and engagement.
  • Ability to travel and staff key events, including Retreats and Missions.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years professional experience showing progression responsibility working with lay leadership, in or outside of the Jewish communal world.
  • Track record of building successful partnerships with highly experienced volunteers & donors.
  • Track record of successful constituent engagement.
  • High level of comfort and knowledge of fundraising and campaign best practices.
  • Expertise in creating experiences that speak to philanthropic leaders across the spectrum of giving.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills – people-person– relationship-builder with track record of customer service and a deep understanding of the lay/pro partnership
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills as well as the ability to effectively articulate JFNA’s mission in this arena to all relevant constituencies
  • Strategic capability to see the big picture and connect the dots across multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within and across teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills
  • Inspires results and is results-driven, strategic thinker.
  • Experience in presentations, persuasive speaking, planning/visioning/goal setting, and tracking results
  • Knowledge of the Jewish communal landscape and its institutions (including JFNA and the Federation system) – preferred but not required.
  • Motivated self-starter who can lead independently and take initiative.
  • Flexibility and an enterprising spirit

Our compensation philosophy strives to be externally competitive and internally fair.   Additionally, we offer voluntary learning programs throughout the year in subjects of interest to our staff.  

 

Salary Range: The hiring salary range for this role is $110,000 -130,000
