What you’ll be responsible for:

As Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Jewish United Fund, you will work with senior professional leadership, department heads, and the Joint Operations Team to prioritize resources for strategic objectives, approve and review specific work plans, lead strategic operational projects, direct targeted operational problem-solving efforts and, along with key colleagues, participate in our annual department budget processes.

You will focus on the organizational health of JUF as it relates to the execution of our mission. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing essential aspects of our work (staffing resources, materials/equipment, funds), to ensure they are allocated and monitored effectively, ultimately contributing to the measurable, integrated outcomes that JUF strives to achieve.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Prioritizing Resources – Operationalize strategic decisions made by the President/CEO and senior professional leadership and work with department heads to translate those priorities into work plans.
  • Departmental Budgets – Work with Accounting and Human Resources departments to help design and implement efficient processes for our annual budget cycles; manage those processes to specific budget outcomes.
  • Work Plans – Work with department heads to periodically approve, review, and modify work plans to achieve strategic and operational outcomes.
  • Strategic Operations – Design and lead specific projects that advance integrated functions and outcomes for the organization.
  • Program Review – Lead review and approval processes for all new programs, program expansions, and sunsetting of programs, as well as periodic assessment of ongoing programs and initiatives.
  • Problem Solving – Direct operational problem-solving functions with department heads as necessary to improve efficiencies and correct systematic challenges.
  • General – Support JUF Campaign and mandatory campaign-related activities on an ongoing basis.

 

What you need to succeed:

  • 10+ years’ experience in senior professional leadership positions, preferably in nonprofit management.
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated long-term leadership in complex and/or large organizations.
  • Extensive successful management experience.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with significant responsibilities in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Familiarity with Jewish communal structures and functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
