Organization Overview: The Jewish Federations of North America (“JFNA”) consist of 146 Jewish Federations and dozens of Network communities which collectively raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually to support flourishing Jewish life and the needs of the Jewish people in their home communities and around the world. The Jewish Federation system, among the top 10 charities on the continent, leads the largest network of volunteer and professional leaders who build and sustain Jewish communities that are healthy, safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive, educated and engaged, involved in the broader community, and deeply connected to Israel and the global Jewish people. The Center on Holocaust Survivor Care and Institute on Aging and Trauma (“Center”), housed within JFNA, is a leading voice in the U.S. on person-centered, trauma informed (PCTI) care and support services for Holocaust survivors, diverse older adults with a history of trauma (e.g., immigrants, refugees, LGBTQs), and their family caregivers. We advance PCTI programming nationwide by annually issuing grants to local Jewish and non-Jewish social services agencies to implement innovative projects, providing technical assistance and capacity building to subgrantees and the aging network at large, and advocating on behalf of the needs of vulnerable older adults.

 

Position Summary: In collaboration with the Advisor, Financial Oversight, the Assistant Manager provides strategy, guidance, monitoring, review, and supervision of the financial processes, procedures, and policies of the Center related to its internal operations and subgrantees located throughout the U.S.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct financial oversight of subgrantees including reviewing, monitoring, modifying, and/or approving annual budgets and various financial reports to ensure the financial health and accuracy of grant-funded projects.
  • Provide financial technical assistance and capacity-building related to subgrantees’ programming by identifying problems, proposing recommendations, and implementing solutions to rectify issues in collaboration with the programs team.
  • Respond to inquiries from the subgrantees; draft and disseminate memos and reports; and develop, coordinate, and present financial webinars/trainings.
  • Draft budgets and budget narratives for federal and non-federal grant proposals; financial operations manual (SOP); audit letters for subgrantees; financial instructions  for the Center’s RFPs; financial resources; and other written materials as needed.
  • Create new and/or update existing reporting and grant templates to streamline procedures and increase efficiency of the Center.
  • Track, analyze, and report on financial trends, including compiling data on financial matches and for JFNA audits.
  • Develop filing system and record various reporting templates submitted by subgrantees.
  • Collaborate with JFNA’s Finance Department and external stakeholders, such as subgrantees and funders.
  • Participate in remote and in-person site visits, staff meetings, and conferences.
  • Other assignments as requested.

 

Qualifications:  

  • Two to three years of experience conducting financial oversight in a nonprofit, grant-making organization, or government agency
  • Fluency in analyzing and monitoring programs and budgets. Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, be detail-oriented, and have experience developing systems to track information and increase efficiency.
  • Professional self-starter and team-player who can multi-task, meet deadlines, and collaborate with a remote team and stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and quantitative skills
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite with superior Excel skills.
  • Interest in aging and trauma and a commitment to helping Holocaust survivors, older adults with a history of trauma, and family caregivers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically.

Note: Funding for this position is contingent upon annual Congressional appropriations and JFNA receipt of the government grant.

 

This position is full-time with benefits. While the employee may work out of JFNA offices in New York or Washington DC, the position may be hybrid or fully remote depending on the applicant’s location.

Salary range:  $60,000 - $70,000
