In addition to coping with the global pandemic and political and civil unrest, Israeli security forces and the country’s southern residents have been dealing with a frightening uptick in terror along the Gaza border. For nearly all of August, Gaza-based militant groups launched hundreds of explosive and incendiary balloons as well as rockets across the border fence with Israel.
In addition there were two terrorist stabbing attacks in the center of the country; Refael Levi was stabbed 28 times on August 15 in Rosh Ha’ayin, and Rabbi Shai Ohayon, a father of 4, was killed by multiple stab wounds on August 26 in Petah Tikva.
Federation and our partners at the Jewish Agency and Keren Hayesod created the Fund For the Victims of Terror in 2002 to assist Israeli families whose lives have been upended by terror. The fund provides immediate financial assistance and related support services to help the affected cope with their tremendous loss and to ease their recovery and rehabilitation. Read this brief update on the Fund’s activities, created last month for the FVOT Professional Committee.
