Emergency Response to COVID-19 in India

India’s COVID-19 surge has devastated the entire country. With cases remaining high, and the healthcare system overburdened, many people still have nowhere to turn.

Through Federation’s generous support, JDC is delivering life-saving assistance to the world’s most vulnerable people, acting swiftly to provide critically needed medical interventions to Indians.

For decades, JDC has lifted lives in India. And in response to this crisis, they've leveraged longstanding relationships with the Indian Jewish community and local and international partners to deliver:

  • Medical equipment: In less than a week, JDC delivered and installed two dozen battery-operated ventilators to hospitals in India. These Israel-manufactured ventilators are portable and versatile, able to travel easily between hospital departments.
  • Leadership Training: Working with their longtime partner SEWA (the Self-Employed Women’s Association) JDC has trained women in 20 rural villages on COVID-19 prevention, equipping them with health kits that contain thermometers, masks, and more that will reach 20,000 people.
  • Telemedicine: To ease the burden on India’s healthcare system, JDC is leveraging the latest medical technology to help Indian doctors remotely monitor ICU patients. With just one camera, a doctor can access over 10 ICU beds anywhere in the country.
