Israeli PM Netanyahu To Headline 2013 GA in Israel May 8, 2013
The Jewish Federations of North America is proud to announce that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address the opening session of the 2013 General Assembly in Jerusalem this November to discuss current challenges confronting Israel and the Jewish people.
Prime Minister Netanyahu will headline an array of major VIPs and global speakers at the 2013 GA, which will take place Nov.10-12 at Jerusalem’s International Convention Center. The GA is the signature annual gathering of Jewish Federations and the Jewish communal world.
"We are deeply honored that Prime Minister Netanyahu will join us at this year’s General Assembly," said Michael Siegal, chair of the JFNA Board of Trustees. "We greatly value this critical opportunity to hear the Prime Minister's unique perspectives on Israel and the global Jewish agenda."
Thousands of Jews from across the globe will convene at the GA to celebrate Israel’s 65th anniversary, explore the Jewish State’s most compelling issues, the dynamics of the Israel-Diaspora relationship, and the impact of Jewish Federations. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s GA appearance will also mark the culmination of the Jewish Agency's Assembly in Jerusalem, which will run Nov. 7-10.
"We look forward to every GA for the opportunity to gather together and generate new insights into a wide range of important issues, but the GA in Israel also provides the profound experience of sharing and learning in the Jewish homeland," said JFNA’s President and CEO, Jerry Silverman.
Michael and Susie Gelman of Washington, D.C. are serving as the GA’s North America chairs, while Ronny Douek is serving as the GA’s Israel chair.
This year’s event will feature global leaders and cutting-edge thinkers in an inspiring and substantive dialogue. GA participants will examine strengthening Israel’s civil society, building the Israel-Diaspora partnership, exploring Israeli innovation and philanthropy, engaging younger Jews, and much more. This Israel GA will also bring these issues to life through the "GA on Wheels," when participants explore key GA themes throughout the Jewish State.
GAs have featured such global leaders as Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel; Natan Sharansky; Vice President Joe Biden; Israeli President Shimon Peres; Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak; Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren; the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro; Former Israeli Opposition Leader and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni; and senior members of Congress including Sen. Barbara Mikulski; Rep. Eric Cantor; Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz; and VIPs in business, culture and philanthropy.
