On Wednesday, June 20, 2012, President Peres’ annual Conference will host a session on last summer’s tent protests in Israel, discussing their influence on the country's future. The session will be broadcast live via the JFNA Israel & Overseas Website, with simultaneous English translation. This session will deal with the nature of the Israeli protest phenomenon, deciding whether it is unique or if it can be seen as part of the global ”occupy” movement. The session will discuss the roots of the protests, the government's reaction to the protestors, and to what degree the protests influence Israel’s future. The session will feature Professor Tamar Hermann, a renowned academic in the field of democracy; Ms. Daphni Leef, a social activist and leader of the 2011 protests; Mr. Itzik Shmuli, Chairman of the National Union of Israel Students and leader of the 2011 protests; Dr. Avi Simhon, Professor of Economics and member of the Trajtenberg Committee; and Mr. Russell Simmons, Chairman of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding and CEO of Rush Communications and dynamic social activist.
