A Message from Rebecca Caspi, Senior Vice President, Israel & Overseas
2011 is here, and we at JFNA Israel & Overseas are looking forward with anticipation. As we ring in the year, JFNA has reaffirmed its historic partnership with JAFI and JDC, which will enhance our ability to meet global Jewish needs.
Buoyed by this outcome, we already find ourselves in the trenches, working to make sure relief reaches the areas in northern Israel damaged by the Carmel fire. We are also increasing our interface on major social issues in Israel, continuing to dialogue with government and religious leaders alike on issues affecting religious pluralism and conversion rights. Together with the JCPA and JFNA’s Washington Office, we’ll be stepping up our role on BDS, and countering efforts at delegitimization of Israel as a Jewish democratic homeland.
Alongside these broad moves, our year’s goals include furthering the I&O affinity group to continue to bring Federation professionals together to network and share information. The group will, in turn, help those on the forefront of developing the Negev and Galilee and those working to ensure that the most effective forms of social services reach those that need it most.
Although the work ahead is considerable, we are eager to begin. Now is the time for more action. As Rabbi Tarfon said famously in Pirkei Avot: “It is not up to you to complete the task, but neither may you be idle.” Looking ahead to a year of wonderful work together.
