The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland has selected Marc N. Blattner as president and chief executive officer beginning on Sept. 1.

The post has been vacant since Charles R. Schiffman retired on June 30.

Blattner, 41, brings to Portland some 16 years of leadership experience within the Federation movement, in addition to specialized leadership training as a Jewish communal professional.

Blattner’s last post was as executive vice president for development and community affairs at the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, a post he held since June 2008.

Prior to Philadelphia, he spent four years with the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta as its chief operating officer

His first posting within the Jewish Federation movement was with the Associated Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore where he spent 10 years, beginning as a planning associate and rising to the post of campaign vice president.

Blattner is a graduate of Emory University where he majored in Jewish studies and Near Eastern history. He was a recipient of the JFNA Mandel Center’s FEREP Scholarship (Federation Executive Recruitment and Education Program) and earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Maryland and a Master of Arts in Judaic studies at the Baltimore Hebrew College.
