REGISTER NOW FOR THE 2010 GA, INTERNATIONAL LION OF JUDAH CONFERENCE

June 15, 2010

Online registration is officially open for the 2010 General Assembly (GA) and International Lion of Judah Conference (ILOJC) of The Jewish Federations of North America.

The 2010 GA will take place Nov. 7-9 in New Orleans and is expected to draw thousands of Jews from North America and around the world. The 2010 ILOJC will take place Nov. 8-10, also in New Orleans, and will gather leading Jewish women philanthropists. For the first time, both conferences will include a day of service to help the community.

Visit the GA website and ILOJC website for information about each event and to register online. Register before August 6 for early-bird discounts.

“What better place to gather with our continental Jewish community than in New Orleans?” said Jerry Silverman, JFNA’s president and CEO. “The North American Jewish community, en masse, played a huge role in helping New Orleans recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Five years on, we remember and celebrate the renaissance of this incredible community.  New Orleans reminds us that when we work as a collective, anything is possible.”

The GA is the premier annual North American Jewish communal event, convening professionals and volunteer leaders. The GA focuses on contemporary issues and showcases Federation innovations. GA Co-Chairs are Steve and Judy Silverman. International Co-Chairs are Eitan and Ariella Wertheimer.

As was the case for the 2009 GA, Federations and partners proposed program ideas, driving and shaping the 2010 agenda (read more here). Recent GAs also featured such VIP speakers as White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel; Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; Israeli President Shimon Peres and many others from the worlds of politics, philanthropy, business and the arts.

Also this year, JFNA -- with Repair the World and The Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans -- will hold the first GA Service Day on Nov. 8. Participants will choose from three kinds of volunteer projects or visit local residents. The GA will also feature sessions on tikkun olam (repairing the world), social justice, the power of volunteerism and much more.

The 2010 ILOJC also promises an outstanding program with remarkable speakers, teachers and performers. Participants will celebrate tzedakah as they raise funds for the Jewish Federation’s Annual Campaign and participate in a hands-on service project dealing with education and literacy.  Leslie Dannin Rosenthal and Julie Russin Bercow will co-chair the ILOJC.

A special Shabbat program will usher in the week’s events, with an opportunity to learn and prepare for the two conferences.

Check back with the GA and ILOJC websites for program updates and news as well.
