March 2010, IT'S ALL IN THE TIMING: Alan Edelman, Associate Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City, and his wife Deborah were due to arrive in Israel to attend an IDF ceremony for their soldier daughter Katja, however their flight was delayed. Ready for anything, JFNA's VIP team escorted the Edelmans to a helicopter to take them to the ceremony in the Negev. The department even organized for the IDF to delay the start of the ceremony. In the happy end, the family attended the ceremony and took great pride in their daughter's achievement.

January 19, 2010, NO PLACE LIKE HOME: Eighty-two members of the Falas Mura denomination were greeted by government officials after arriving in Israel overnight Tuesday. Sixty-one more are expected to arrive on Wednesday. The new immigrants will stay at Jewish Agency absorption centers throughout the country.
January 5, 2010, GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS: Federation representatives participated in a meeting with leaders of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor in Jerusalem, initiated by the Negev Work Group to explore potential partnerships between federations and the government of Israel in the Negev.

November 26, 09: TURKEY WITH HUMMUSJerusalem's Hebrew University students were treated to a turkey dinner with trimmings, sponsored by Jewish Federations and the Bruce Kaufman Endowment Fund. Israeli band Hatikvah 6 entertained, together with performers on stilts and fire dancers. Read more and see pictures.

 

 

 

 

 

October 27, 09: TEARS OF JOY: A flight of 142 new immigrants from Ethiopia, including 58 children, arrived in Israel. The new arrivals are already settled in their new homes at two Jewish Agency for Israel absorption centers. For more, visit the JAFI website.

 
October 25, 09: MEDICAL HELPMichael Gelman,  Chair-elect of the Executive Committee, represented Jewish Federations of North America at the dedication ceremony for a new emergency room at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. A total of $2 million of funding was provided by the Israel Emergency Campaign (IEC) II through the Jewish Agency for Israel.
