ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU TO SPEAK AT THE 2009 GENERAL ASSEMBLY

October 26, 2009

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will attend the 2009 General Assembly (GA) of UJC/The Jewish Federations of North America, being held Nov. 8-10 in Washington, D.C.

Prime Minister Netanyahu is slated to speak on the GA’s opening day, Sunday, at
2 p.m. The Prime Minister is among several global leaders to be attending the GA, including President Obama and an array of Israeli and North American VIPs.

“We are excited and proud to be hosting Prime Minister Netanyahu again, who represents not only the Jewish State, but the homeland of all the Jewish People,” said Dede Feinberg of Washington, who with her husband Kenneth is serving as the GA’s North America co-chair, in partnership with International Co-Chair Leonid Nevzlin of Israel.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu’s presence at the GA underscores the bond between Israel and North America and the critical role of our continental Jewish community,” said Joe Kanfer, chair of the Board of Trustees of The Jewish Federations of North America.

Other leading Israeli officials include Head of Opposition Tzipi Livni (Kadima); Minister of Public Affairs and the Diaspora Yuli-Yoel Edelstein; and Ayman Seif, director-general in the prime minister’s office of the Authority for the Economic Development of Minority Sectors. Benjamin Krasna, deputy consul-general of Israel in New York, and Major General Aharon Zeevi Farkash, former IDF head of planning and intelligence, will also speak.

This year’s GA, with the theme “Remember When You Thought Anything Was Possible? It Still Is,” highlights how The Jewish Federations of North America help the Jewish people worldwide.
