UJC/FEDERATION SYSTEM UPDATE:
THE GAZA SITUATION

January 22, 2009

UJC Israel Solidarity Drive

While Israel ended its military operation in Gaza, great humanatirian needs still require attention in Southern Israel. The UJC/Federation system continues to work to raise $10 million to help the nearly 1 million Israelis who suffer what they call the "emotional shrapnel" that thousands of missiles have inflicted over eight years.

Already the UJC/Federation system has raised more than $6 million toward this effort.

Please see these updated talking points to use for Israel Solidarity Drive efforts in your community.

The Israel Solidarity Drive helps people in Southern Israel through programs run by UJC's main overseas partners: the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the Jewish Agency for Israel, Israel Trauma Coalition and Ethiopian National Project. Some funds are also allocated for the Israel Advocacy Initiative (a partnership of UJC and JCPA), which helps communities better advocate for Israel.

UJC and the Federations of North America are supporting the Israel Solidarity Drive with an e-philanthropy effort that includes Web banners and a Google ad-word campaign. Federations may customize Web banners for their own marketing efforts. To download Web banners, click here.

Please encourage your community to donate to the Israel Solidarity Drive now. If your federation would like to create a link to the donation form, please use this URLwww.ujc.org/IsraelSolidarityDrive
