The Greater Toronto area’s Jewish community, with a quality of Jewish life second to none in the Diaspora, is the eight largest in North America yet boasts the third largest annual campaign on the continent.  The Federation conducts the annual United Jewish Appeal Campaign, has a growing Foundation of over $220 million and is currently conducting the largest non-profit capital fundraising campaign in the country with a goal of $400 million.  The Federation allocates funds to over 100 agencies or programs in Toronto, Canada, Israel and around the world.

UJA Federation is approaching its centennial year and serves almost 200,000 members of Toronto’s Jewish community as well as the Jewish community worldwide.  Last year, the Federation’s revenue totaled $100 million including $63 million from the annual UJA Campaign.  The Federation owns 3 campuses and other properties for a total value of $300 million.  With 130 staff members, it manages an operating and programmatic budget of over $13 million.

Position Summary

The Federation is seeking an entrepreneurial campaign professional to work as part of a team engaged with young donors and potential donors, as well as others engaged with young members of our community.

Responsibilities

  • Work with donors and potential donors in the 25-40 age category, focusing on those seen as future leaders as well as the broader campaign.
  • Work with campaign team, including event fundraisers, to meet specific campaign goals.
  • Work with lay leadership, committees and volunteer canvassers to ensure that fundraising and other goals are met.
  • Develop and implement creative strategies to engage young community members in the work of the organization.
  • Maintain donor relations including cultivation, obtaining gifts, and follow-up.
  • Create awareness among specific new donors.
  • Meet fundraising goals within proscribed periods of time.
  • Meet tight timelines in all areas.
  • Serve as ambassador for the organization’s leading role in the Jewish community of Toronto.

  • Passion for the Jewish community, Israel and improving the lives of the vulnerable, through raising funds
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate leadership
  • Flexibility to work evenings
  • Proficiency in personal computers
  • Basic knowledge of the Jewish community preferred
  • Familiarity with national and international Jewish issues preferred
  • BA, MA preferred
  • 3-5 years related experience, particularly in solicitation and working with groups
