Description: The campaign director is responsible for the development and implementation of all fundraising strategies that relate to his or her profile, and providing overall strategic direction for increasing donor engagement and volunteer involvements through a number of activities. The director realizes Financial Resources Development goals as well as provides staff direction, focus, management, and supervision. He or she works directly with senior lay leadership to develop a coherent planning strategy for the annual campaign, Planned Giving & Endowments, and the Capital Department when appropriate.
The campaign director recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates campaign staff and recruits, develops, and cultivates volunteers and lay leaders.
Major Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the annual campaign for the Lawyers Division.
- Align the interests of donors from the legal community with the work of the campaign, providing a forum for deepening donor engagement.
- Be the “face” of the organization in the legal community, serving as ambassador of UJA-Federation’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Develop and maintain a high-performance team of professionals and administrative staff that continuously meet or exceed mutually agreed-upon expectations.
- Design and implement a strategic business plan for the departmental portfolio, including developing goals and objectives, facilitating the expansion of dollars raised, increasing the donor base, and identifying new areas for expansion.
- Maintain a direct portfolio of donors and prospects by working with lay leaders and staff to cultivate and maximize opportunities for building relationships; engaging and soliciting donors to increase dollars raised and expand the donor base; and providing and encouraging participation in briefings, educational opportunities, recognition, site visits, and missions.
- Provide overall management to direct reports by coordinating staff assignments, fostering teamwork, directing, coaching, setting expectations, and providing performance feedback and career-development opportunities to ensure that individual and departmental goals are attained.
- Develop, review, and monitor operating budget to maintain accountability and ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Build positive brand awareness among departments and targeted age groups of Jewish New Yorkers.
- Create new and innovative models for giving and involvement for those with significant capacity for giving and leadership.
- Through an appointed liaison, monitor and evaluate clerical and support functions, ensuring smooth and efficient building and support operations and establishing and implementing procedures as needed.
- Maximize internal relationships with marketing and communications, conference and banquets, event management, and accounting to optimize and service the needs of our donors.
- Collaborate with all product segments within UJA-Federation to maximize additive gift opportunities.
- Along with staff, volunteer leaders, and committee chairs, plan meeting agendas, prepare presentations, frame issues for committee discussions, and plan and implement effective fundraising efforts.
- Utilize donor research and internal resources to capitalize fundraising opportunities.
Skills/Experience
- Master’s degree preferred
- Seven-plus years of fundraising experience
- Minimum two years of management experience
- Knowledge of structure and work of organized Jewish community
Negotiation and consensus-building skills
- Strong interpersonal relationship building, leadership, and writing skills
- Creative thinker with ability to be a team player
- Deep understanding of the value and nature of the lay–professional partnership
- Experience in leadership development and mentorship
- Strategic-planning skills
- Ability to create a departmental campaign plan
