SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Development Director, provides professional leadership to the Development department; develops, cultivates and manages donors; creates, organizes and implements fundraising strategies and tactics; recruits, organizes and trains volunteer workers; assures adherence to Campaign time schedules; budgets; directs and maintains files of prospects; meets with individuals, committees and organizations to solicit for the Campaign; prepares necessary reports; develops detailed knowledge of the community and trends associated with area of solicitation; develops and organizes a continual effort to communicate the Jewish Federationís mission and current communal issues and needs; carries out various functions otherwise assigned; participates on committees, at special events or other activities.

I. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivate one-to-one relationship with donors
  • Identify prospective donors through networking, programming, events, outreach and engagement strategies
  • Direct solicitation of General Campaign donors, lapsed donors and prospects under the direction of Development Director
  • Serve as Donor Relationships Manager to develop, implement and manage Federation mid-level campaign, encompassing donor gifts in the range of $1,800 - $9,999
  • Research donors and participate in strategic planning for individual and family outreach
  • Create and maintain donor files, follow up on donor meetings, and strive to build enduring donor relationships with Federation
  • Collaborate in developing campaign objectives, recruit and train volunteer solicitors, generate campaign reports and evaluate campaign status
  • Partner with volunteer solicitors on donor engagement, stewardship and solicitation
  • Create meaningful opportunities for volunteer leaders to be involved in donor cultivation and development and train and support volunteer leaders by developing strategies for meetings, events, and appropriate written materials
  • Establish and maintain an ongoing relationship with each of the identified donors and, as needed, other family members, seeking to match individual philanthropic interests with communal needs and priorities
  • Track and strive to meet fundraising goals
  • Work in conjunction with Development Manager and Events Associate in delivering meaningful menís and co-ed programming and campaign events
  • Work with Womenís Philanthropy team in collaborative messaging and co-ed programming and events
  • Plan and implement relevant committee and/or task-force meetings
  • Assist with budget preparations and monitoring for the mid-level campaign and outreach, related activities, ensuring financial efficiencies and adherence to approved budget levels
  • Track and encourage the growth of donors to the General Campaign
  • Collaborate with planned giving on stewardship and solicitation of donors
  • Collaborate with Development Director in developing mid-level campaign objectives
  • Stay organized on current donors, lapsed and prospects
  • Work strategically and collaboratively with Planning & Innovation as well as Israel & Overseas and Jewish Community Resources Council to gain up-to-date knowledge of needs and priorities and ensure proper gift development that meets both the donorsí and communityís interests
  • Actively work with Federation Marketing-Communications staff to assure effective donor communications and use of state-of-the-art approaches to donor marketing, including related collateral materials, event materials, assuring timeliness, accuracy and consistency of message in all activities
  • Participate actively as a member of the Development team in campaign events, phone-a-thons, and other associate Federation events and activities
  • Perform other duties as directed by Development Director


II. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Education
  • Bachelorís degree is required
  • Experience
  • Five to seven years of experience in a development or related position with a non-profit fundraising organization, including four years of experience supporting a successful fundraising campaign, is required.
  • Broad knowledge of institutions, agencies and programs of the Jewish community is required. Familiarity with the state of Israel, including its government, institutions and current events, and specific knowledge of the San Diego Jewish community is preferred.

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities:

  • Strong stewardship and solicitation skills, consistent with donor development and fundraising
  • Proven track record in working with high-net worth individuals, major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving and management of diverse constituencies
  • Knowledge of donor databases and research tools
  • Strong presentation, organization and time-management skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and maintain a high level of accuracy with attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Integrity and proven capacity to manage confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and be detail oriented
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate campaign results and identify trends and the ability to manage statistical data in order to assess fundraising effectiveness and devise strategic plans
  • Leadership qualities, which include a passion for excellence, strategic vision, and diplomacy
  • A highly motivated self-starter with a confident and outgoing personality
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends or irregular hours as necessary to interact with donors and prospects and attend relevant meetings and events
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
