The Federation is expanding its role as a provider to other community organizations of infrastructure and services, including fund-raising services and the finance, IT, and HR. The 2012 Community Campaign was successful, raising more than $6 million dollars for the Federation’s funding recipients.
The Federation movement started in Cincinnati over 112 years ago. Our Federation is quickly gaining recognition among the over 150 Federations nationally as a successful innovator. This legacy and reputation, together with key partnerships, such as that with the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati, gives this position national significance.
The Planned Giving Officer will be responsible for cultivating endowment commitments from a targeted list of current donors and Federation supporters. This will involve face-to-face conversations and personalized follow-up to generate meaningful results.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Federation development team to identify, cultivate and steward target list of prospective planned giving donors.
- Help to develop a fundraising plan in conjunction with staff and key volunteer leaders.
- Reach out to prospects and initiate a conversation regarding longer-term commitments as part of estate planning.
- Follow-up as appropriate to address questions and secure commitments.
- Cultivate relationships with select lawyers, financial planning professionals, bankers, and accountants in the community to encourage commitments from their clients.
- Work with the marketing staff to ensure that messaging regarding planned giving is included in the appropriate Federation marketing initiatives.
- Stay informed of tax law changes or other factors that will affect the environment for planned giving.
- Work with partner agencies to help them establish planned giving programs.
- Provide strategic input and collaborate as part of the Federation’s overall fundraising team.
IDEAL CANDIDATES’ QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5 or more years of experience in a development/fundraising role
- Thorough understanding of estate planning/ financial planning issues relating to charitable contributions
- Significant involvement in the Jewish community, either professionally or as a lay leader/volunteer
- Advanced degree in law, accounting, or business
- Fundraising Success: Proven ability to raise significant funds from diverse sources.
- Technical Expertise: Brings a command of the estate planning and tax provisions that impact planned giving programs and affect donor decisions. Able to work with donor management database.
- Relationship Development: Natural ability to build relationships and trust with high net worth individuals and their advisors.
- Client Service Mentality: Responsive, courteous, and professional in all interactions with potential clients.
- Respected Professional: Able to represent the Federation in a professional manner with a diverse group of potential donors and community partners.
- Effective Communicator: Willing to listen and able to present recommendations and strategies in an effective manner. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Community Minded: Passionate about the mission of the Federation and the growth and health of the broader Jewish community.
